Puff Pastry Cones

This is my version of a great little dessert, that does not require much time in kitchen or great baking skills. You can use ready rolled puff pastry available in any market and a filling of your choice. I amusing custard based cream, but fill free to use just whipped cream, if you want an easier version. It's creamy, it's crunchy, it's delicious!

Ingredients

1 ready rolled puff pastry sheet

For the filling:

150ml of milk

1 egg yolk

1tbsp of sugar

120g of mascarpone cheese

1 tbsp of corn flour vanilla extract

Methode

  1. Prepare the custard. Pour milk to a pan, add sugar and vanilla and bring to a boil.

  2. Combine egg yolk with cornstarch to get a smooth paste.

  3. When milk starts boiling, lower the heat. Pour the milk very slowly into an egg yolk mixture stirring the egg yolk constantly. When all milk is combined with egg yolk, pour everything back into a pan and cook on a medium heat stirring constantly until it thickens up and you get a custard.

  4. Pour the custard into a dish and cover very thoroughly with a cling film when still hot. Make sure you cover the whole surface of the custard (check video instructions) to avoid the skin creating on the surface of custard. Put it in the fridge to set and cool down completely (usually around 4-5 hours).

  5. Heat up the oven to 180oC.

  6. Prepare the cones. If you do not have a metal baking cones, you can make them using cardboard covered with aluminium foil - I used to do it in the beginning and it worked perfectly. Paint the outer side of the cones with a bit of oil so the pastry will not stick to them.

  7. Prepare the cones. If you do not have a metal baking cones, you can make them using cardboard covered with aluminium foil - I used to do it in the beginning and it worked perfectly. Paint the outer side of the cones with a bit of oil so the pastry will not stick to them.

  8. Place the cones on the baking tray and you can egg wash them, but it is not really necessary. Bake them for around 20 minutes. Then remove from baking cones and let cool down completely before filling.

  9. Prepare the filling. Whip the Mascarpone cheese with custard until homogeneous cream. Put in a piping bag - for ease of filling the cones.

  10. Fill the cones with cream and serve.

Enjoy!!
