Poached fruits are a great addition to a lot of desserts or on their own, for example as an ingredient in a fruit salad or with a custard. Plus you're left with mulled wine or fruity syrup as a bonus. They are very easy to make and delicious. In this recipe I am making pears poached in red wine - the taste of the wine that is left is divine:)
Ingredients
3 pears
200ml of red wine
100ml of water
70g of sugar
5 cloves
1 tsp of cinnamon
1 tsp of orange oil or 3 slices of orange
2 tbsp of lemon juice
1 tbsp of peppercorns
Methode
Peel and core the pears.
Put all ingredients apart from the pears in a pot big enough to fit the pears. Bring to a boil and add pears.
Lower the heat to a minimum - just to keep the liquid and pears warm.
Cook the pears for around 20 minutes turning them every 5 minutes so they are nicely poached all around. Or if you do not want to turn them, prepare enough of the liquid to cover them completely:) then you will be left with even more delicious mulled wine;)
Enjoy!!
